Deck-o-Seal
What is a Pool Expansion Joint?
The pool expansion joint is usually the ¼” to 1” space between the pool and the pool deck. It allows these two structures to be separated from each other when they expand and contract from heat in summer and cold in winter. Sealing this expansion joint with a pool-specific joint sealant, like Deck-o-Seal, allows the materials on each side to move without resulting in serious damage. This works because the sealant is self-leveling and can fill all the gaps in the expansion joint, preventing water from getting behind the coping and tile. If water freezes there, it can cause tile, coping, and bond beam damage, costing you a lot of money to repair.
Pool joint sealant like Deck-o-Seal, comes in three colors – tan, gray, or white. We recommend replacing the sealant with the same color as the last application.

When is it time to Replace Your Deck-o-Seal?
- When you see it peeling away from coping and/or pool deck
- If it sinks
- When you have the pool tile, coping, and/or pool deck replaced
- If it becomes discolored (for aesthetic reasons)
AND - When it is consistently over 77 degrees
- When there is no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours
- When you & your family (including pets!) can avoid the pool & pool area for at least 24 hours to avoid splash-out or stepping on the sealant while it cures
How can we help?
We can replace the Deck-o-Seal in your pool expansion joint to help protect your pool deck, coping, and tile from freeze-thaw damage. We prefer to do this work in July and August when the weather is consistently hot enough for proper application.
